Oscillococcinum – have you seen the ads?

If you’ve seen any of the humorous tv ads about the hard to pronounce flu remedy Oscillococcinum, you may be wondering “What is this all about?” (You can watch one of the ads below or see all them here.)

Oscillo (the easier to remember nickname) is a homeopathic remedy. Homeopathy is an entire topic itself and we have several articles about it: a brief introduction here and also one of Amanda’s in-depth articles. It is a form of medicine that is very popular in many parts of the world and is becoming more well-known and used in the United States. One of its benefits is that is has no side effects.

oscillococcinumOscillococcinum can be purchased without a prescription and is available in all health food stores, most pharmacies, and many grocery and department stores . It is also available online of course.

I have had great results from Oscillo. If you use it as soon as you start feeling ill, the flu bug can often be stopped in its tracks.

Here is something you won’t hear from Boiron (the makers of Oscillococcinum), although every homeopathic practitioner I’ve talked to confirms this to be true: you don’t need to take a whole vial at once. Instead, when those queasy flu-like symptoms come on, take a dozen or so of the pellets every 20 minutes. It’s a little more trouble, but this method of dosing is very effective.

Also, according to homeopath Dana Ullman, MPH of Homeopathic Services, there have been three large clinical studies published in respected medical journals that have confirmed the efficacy of oscillo in reducing flu symptoms.

Keep some Oscillo on hand and try it next time you start to feel ill. You may become another of the many fans of homeopathy.
